Cognitive Therapy

Memory and problem solving are becoming a challenge.

Perhaps you are having trouble organizing your thoughts, Dad can’t consistently remember to take his medications, or Mom is frustrated because she can’t keep everyone’s names straight.

These are common complaints that I receive from clients who need cognitive therapy.

Cognition is an ever-evolving phenomenon that can be affected by a stroke or brain injury, other neurological condition, or aging.

Being forgetful creates challenges in your daily life.

Evelyn was scaring herself – she had driven to the parking lot – but she didn’t know which parking lot she was in. It wasn’t too far from her house – but what was her address? She would just sit for a bit and try to be calm. Perhaps her memory would put the links together.

Janice was at the grocery and didn’t recall why she went. She knew she usually carried a list of what she needed, but she didn’t have it with her.

Ellis didn’t like to talk to people he didn’t know well. It was difficult to follow conversations; sometimes even with family, he couldn’t tell them what he needed or wanted. His forgetfulness was increasing – and there seemed to be more confusion as the days passed.

Meeting cognitive demands are important to a healthy lifestyle.

Sometimes referred to as “executive functioning,” all cognitive domains are important in order to lead a fulfilling, purposeful, independent lifestyle.

As a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS), I have the know-how to help identify cognitive areas that need to be addressed; and, more importantly, I have the expertise to help you make permanent positive changes in your life.

Cognitive assessment and treatment can help address your issues.

We will begin our therapeutic journey to cognitive achievement by discussing the issues you are experiencing and what seems to bother you about them.

After I review your medical history, I will administer a variety of formal and informal cognitive assessments, personally tailored to address the issues you are experiencing. Afterward, I will discuss with you the results of the assessments and come up with a treatment plan that will put you on the path to long-term success.

Once we begin working together, you will see results and wish you had called sooner!

Your search for the right speech therapist is over!
